Blurb:
In this paranormal fantasy adaptation of the medieval legend of Tristan and Isolde, the rightful heir to the Irish crown must flee the wicked queen, finding shelter with a fairy witch who teaches her the verdant magic of the forest. Fate leads Issylte to the otherworldly realm of the Lady of the Lake and the Elves of Avalon, where she must choose between her life as a Celtic healer or fight to save her ravaged kingdom from the ruthless Black Widow Queen.

Tristan of Lyonesse is a Knight of King Arthur’s Round Table who must overcome the horrors of his traumatic past and defend his kingdom of Cornwall against a Viking invasion from Ireland. When he becomes a warrior of the Tribe of Dana, a gift of Druidic magic might hold the key he seeks.

Two parallel lives, interwoven by fate. Haunted and hunted by the same Black Widow Queen.

Can their passion and power prevail?

BOOK REVIEW: THE WILD ROSE AND THE SEA RAVEN

The Wild Rose and the Sea Raven by Jennifer Ivy Walker is an epic tale loosely based on the Arthurian legend of the tragic lovers of Cornish knight Tristan and Irish Princess Isolde during the era of King Arthur. The first book in the trilogy is a coming-of-age tale of Princess Issylte, the rightful heir to the Irish Kingdom, and Tristan of Lyonesse, the presumptive heir to the Cornish kingdom ruled by his uncle King Marke. The story alternates between Issylte and Tristan until they meet later in the book.

After Issylte’s father remarries to Scottish Princess Morag, fourteen-year-old Issylte must escape an assassination attempt by her step-mother. Issylte first finds respite with a forest fairy who teaches her the art of healing. A few years later, she again must flee for her life to the Island of Avalon where she becomes a priestess and discovers she has the magical gift of sight. Meanwhile, Tristan earns the right to be a knight at King Arthur’s round table in a tournament. Under the training of Lancelot, Tristan becomes his match in weapons skill. Tristan is grievously wounded in a battle against Queen Morag’s Viking champion, and he is sent to Avalon to be healed. There, Issylte saves his life

Author Jennifer Ivy Walker has written a captivating tale with various twists that captures the essence of Arthurian legends. The vivid, sensory descriptions sweep the reader into the medieval world with its opulent castles and lush forests. The story expands on the magical elements of Celtic beliefs centered around the Goddess. Issylte has the gift of sight whereas Tristan is endowed with the ability to speak with animals after he is inducted into the Tribe of Dana, renowned for their prowess as warriors. Issylte and Tristan are engaging, relatable characters trying to figure out where they belong in their world and what are their destinies. Their trials in the first book are crucial in helping them to meet the challenges of countering the machinations of Queen Morag, who is determined to reign over both the Irish and Cornish kingdoms. The characterization of Queen Morgan as a femme fatale is not as well-developed as the protagonists and scenes with her are often melodramatic.

The Wild Rose and the Sea Raven is a promising start to a complex and compelling Arthurian tale of romance, magical adventure and political intrigue.
